Pete at the HAT Run 50K

I’m a recovering academic with a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Ohio University. After working for ten years as a professor at a small college in New Hampshire, I decided to leave higher education to blog full-time at Runblogger.com). Though financially rewarding, it didn’t take long for me to realize that professional blogging was not my true calling. I missed being in the classroom. I missed seeing the light bulb turn on when a student begins to understand a difficult concept. I missed the daily opportunity to truly make a difference in a young person’s life. Teaching feeds my soul in a way that sitting in front of a computer screen all day does not.

In the Fall of 2015 I re-embraced my passion for teaching by enrolling in the teacher certification program at the Upper Valley Educator’s Institute in Lebanon, NH. I interned for the school year at Bedford and Merrimack Valley High Schools. I had a blast, and the experience re-affirmed for me that I belong in the classroom. In August 2016 I started a new job as a teacher at Coe-Brown Northwood Academy in Northwood, NH, where I currently teach AP Biology, Honors Biology, and Zoology.

If you’d like to learn a bit about my professional background, you can view my resume here.

Catching some sun!

I’m a former National Forest Service botanist with a Master’s degree in Environmental and Plant Biology. More importantly, I am a lover! A lover of nature, yoga, good food and drink, traveling, reading, hiking, running, writing, etc. etc. I could go on and on. Most importantly, I love and care about this planet and the people on it, and want to do whatever I can to make it a better place. In addition to writing about science here, I write about living a balance life over at Kale and Hops .
